Interview: CB Dollaway
by THE ADMIN on Jul.20, 2010, under UFC
CB Dollaway is a middleweight fighter in the UFC and will bring his skills to the cage against the ultra tough Joe Doerksen at UFC 119 on September 25th. It’s rumored to be on the preliminary portion of the card that will be shown on Spike TV. “The Doberman” is no stranger to television exposure as he was a cast member and finalist of The Ultimate Fighter 7. You may remember him as the Peruvian necktie guy. Up until recently he was training at Arizona Combat Sports. He has since moved to the Lion’s Den(no affiliation to the famed Ken Shamrock camp) in Scottsdale Arizona, to train with fellow Arizona State wrestlers, turned mma fighters Aaron Simpson and Ryan Bader. He is a winner of his last two fights(most recently a February win againt Goran Reljic ) and 4 out of his last 5. Recently I had a chance to chat with CB about his upcoming fight on September 25th.
PUREMMA: So you are no longer training with Arizona Combat Sports?
CB Dolloway: Yeah, me, Ryan Bader, Aaron Simpson and Jesse Forbes are all training with the Lions Den in Scottsdale Arizona. Trying to open a gym real soon.
PMMA: You are stepping in against Joe Doerksen, who has a great ground game. How do you see the fight going?
CB: Yeah he’s obviously great on the ground game. He’s has something like 33 submissions out of his 46 wins. I’m just gonna go in there and mix it up. Probably stand with him and bang. But I’m always trying to get better. Always working to improve my jui jitsu so if it goes to the ground i’ll be ready. I think we have styles that will make for an exciting fight.
PMMA: Doerksen last fight defeated Tom Lawlor. Do you feel a win here would redeem your loss to Lawlor?
CB: Definately, that’s why I wanted this fight. It’s nice to beat a guy who has beaten you.
PMMA: Now if you win this fight, that will be 3 in a row and 5 out of 6. Where does that put you in this division?
CB: I really don’t know. That’s not for me to say. I’ll let the UFC handle that. Maybe in 2 or 3 fights I’d like to take a step up in competition. Right now I’m just training hard and trying to always get better.
PMMA: Is there anyone you’d like to fight next?
CB: Not really, I let them(UFC) decide that.
PMMA: So you fought in Feb., you’re gonna fight in Sept. Do you think you’ll fight again this year.
CB: I want see how I come out of this fight first. There are rumors of an upcoming card in Arizona. I’d love to be on that card. It would be great to fight in front of a home town crowd.
PMMA: Thanks for the time CB and good luck in your fight.
CB: No problem, thank you.

Will be interesting if these guys can pull off creating an elite gym. Its gotta be tough with so many established camps out there. With their pedigree I could see it turning into a Miletich or Hammer House where top collegiate wrestlers could go.

Yeah apparently Mike Miller of the Miami Heat is a partner too. Not sure if his into mma or what the deal is there. Definitely some real talent in Arizona.
